People have increasingly moved into cities even if the technology has created myriad new ways of connecting remotely. Cities have become epicenters of new capital and creativity, because proximity breeds serendipity and strength, from which new ideas and opportunities arise.

As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) expands its impact, Cities are experiencing ‘lockdown’ and its disruptive effects on  urban economies on a multilateral level, including from social and economic point of view.

The idea of a people-friendly city, polycentric and multifunctional, where essential services can be accessed in 15 minutes,  preferably, not by car but lived by walk and cycle, should represent a living habitat in its fabrics but also in what it hosts. 

Facing these growing conflicts some questions becomes relevant 

  • In a medium-term, to what extent some phenomena will accelerate and new paradigms will be established?
  • Will the differences between places dedicated to work, to live, to have fun be destined to further reduce in space and time? 
  • Same considerations for defining limits between private and public spaces?
  • What role will Technology play?
